About Chris Nuñez
Go beyond quick fixes. Build a lifelong mental edge.
Hi, my name is Chris Nuñez and I’m excited to share my knowledge of building a strong mindset for athletics (and for life in general)! My family is originally from the baseball-crazed island of the Dominican Republic. A well-known hub for Major League talent, the attention is usually given to the physical talents of Dominican players. But there’s a secret that no one talks about.
As important as physical traits are, youth from places like the Dominican Republic, Japan, and Venezuelans are also coached from a young age about the mindset that it takes to be an elite
athlete.
I grew up like any other kid, playing basketball, baseball and football in my neighborhood and schools. But my background is a bit different than your typical athletic mindset coach. While I have a deep knowledge of sports with experience playing and coaching, my educational and professional background is all about mindset. I have a dual bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sociology and a Master’s in Social Work with a concentration on Children and Families.
I’ve worked as Director of Social Work and Counseling in the KIPP Charter School Network and Director of Case Management at Rice University where I was also Wellbeing liaison to the Rice Baseball team under coach Jose Cruz Jr.
My most relevant experience, though, may be as a parent. I’ve been on the other end of those conversations after a big error or 3 strike out day. I’ve had to coach my own kids on how to respond when the ball will just not go in the hoop or the game winning pass got deflected.
Together I will help you or your child build the skills to develop a strong mentality while staying even keeled with the stress and success that comes with playing a sport. And I’m still out there
coaching, so if you see my out on the baseball field make sure to say hi!
Our Ideology
LOVE– its starts and ends with the love of the game. The one thing that cannot be taught or coached. The good thing is that it definitely can be developed. All that it takes is a small ember to spark an everlasting flame.
IMPACT– Success breeds confidence. Can you find how you are making a positive impact on the game? It’s not always about what the stats say. If you buy into the impact that you can have, success will breed confidence.
NEXT PLAY– What’s the most important play in sports? The next play! We have to move on quickly to the next task, whether after having a setback or after having success
ENERGY– What type of energy are you bringing to the team? What type of energy are you bringing to your performance? We can develop energy that is impactful and elevates ourselves and others
